Weekends
The weekend weather articles are published at 8:30am on Saturday and Sunday
The Steps
TIP: The day before, I always check the weather forecast and create my feature image and news tile ahead of time. I name the feature image something i can find again and use over - like "sunny beach weather" and upload it to the media library ready to select the next day. Saves time in the morning. (I also create the daily news tile the day beforehand to save time too)
1. On the morning of the article, go to BOM/Adelaide Forecast.
Direct link is http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/adelaide.shtml
2. Start a new email draft.
Delete your email signature. I always pop a bunch of returns in there which seems to help when pasting in the info.
3. Go to the BOM Adelaide forecast
Copy the info for three days, excluding fire danger and sun protection. Ie, for the rest of the day, the following day, and the next day (3 days in total) and copy into the new email. I do this day by day to help exclude the unwanted data re UV ratings etc.
I've highlighted the info below as an example of what to include/exclude for each day.
3. Now generate the weather summary in ChatGPT
Copy ALL of the week's forecast, jump over to ChatGPT (ensure you're logged into the Glam account), and find the Adelaide Weather Forecast chat. Open it. Use the instructions "copy the formatting above using the new information" then paste the info you've copied from BOM. Hit enter. It will generate a summary which looks like the below image. You'll need this at the end.
4. Go back to BOM's SA's warnings.
Copy each of those into the email.
5. Go back to BOM's South Australian forecast.
Direct link here: http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/state.shtml
6. Copy the weather situation, and the same three days worth of forecasts as you did with the Adelaide forecast.
Paste into the email.
7. Send the email to pressrelease.orn2gi@zapiermail.com
Sample of the email below (no warnings as there were none on the day we wrote this)
8. Go to wordpress, go to posts/drafts and find the weather article.
This can take 2-3 minutes to generate.
9. Rename the article to: Adelaide weather forecast for [day] [month] [date]
Example: Adelaide weather forecast for Monday December 12th
If it's a Tuesday or Friday include the words "and the weekend ahead"
Example: Adelaide weather forecast for Friday December 12th and the weekend ahead
If it's a Sunday or Monday, include the words "and the week ahead"
10. Insert the weather feature image to reflect the day's forecast.
If you prepared this earlier, give yourself a pat on the back.
If thunderstorms are predicted, even with a slight chance, use that as the image as it gets more clicks.
11. Select the weather category as your primary category.
Latest will already be selected. Also select SA News as a category.
12. Use "Adelaide Weather" as your only tag
13. Read and edit the excerpt. Use this for your meta description too.
Don't reveal the whole forecast here.
14. Read and edit the article. Ensure it doesn't sound like ChatGPT.
- Don't include the word Celsius
- Remove words not commonly used in conversation
- If references like the "meteorology department" are used, replace with Bureau of Meteorology.
- Remove words like furthermore, thereover, additionally
15. Compete the article
Go to ChatGPT and copy your weather summary, then paste it at the bottom of the article.
Then paste the generic BOM url for the latest weather updates.
16. Schedule your weather post on hubspot for Facebook, Linkedin and X for 6:30am
Create (or grab your pre-made) news tile to post with the caption and link.
Use the caption: ADELAIDE WEATHER: Here's what you can expect today >> link
OR
ADELAIDE WEATHER: Here's what you can expect today and this weekend >> link
ADELAIDE WEATHER: Here's what you can expect today and this week >> link
DONE!
